About Nicky

BSc (Hons) Nutritional Therapy mBANT

B.Comm LLB LLM

Hi. My name is Nicky. I am a qualified Nutritional Therapist working in Sydney's CBD.

I help over 40s to figure out what they should be eating. This may sound simple, but often it isn't. What we eat has become incredibly complicated and the best diet for one person is not the best diet for another. We all have 'that friend' who can eat anything and stay stick thin.

"Nicky provides sensible and no-nonsense advice that many describe as refreshing in a world overwhelmed by green smoothies and quinoa salads"

My areas of interest include men's health (heart disease, men's hormones, enlarged prostate, gout, erectile dysfunction), cognitive function, weight loss and just simply helping people (and their families) to make small changes to improve their health. Based on my own health, I have interests in PCOS and thyroid conditions.

I have a Masters degree in Law (majoring in Tax!) and spent over 13 years working in the corporate world. After learning the power of nutrition firsthand, I redirected these skills to analysing and critiquing nutrition science.

I have a no-nonsense and practical approach to nutrition that many describe as refreshing. I understand that many people don’t want to give up alcohol, eat kale or drink green smoothies.

Many people ask my why I am interested in men's health as my nutrition career started focusing on women and hormones. Men are fantastic and rewarding clients. They do what I tell them and are quick to get results. Men are also an underserviced market who need help and I know that I can help them. I have seen lots of men make a few simple changes and see fantastic results. They lose weight and their health improves. Their clothes are no longer uncomfortable and they feel healthier.

Why over 40s? I see clients of all ages, but there is something that changes when we hit 40 (or thereabouts). Weight gain, sport injuries that don't improve, blood markers that are 'a bit off'. Most people find it incredibly difficult to know exactly what to do and try fad diets causing them to end up in a worse place than when they started. I know that I can help these people.

I see clients online, in Sydney's CBD or (sometimes) in Rose Bay.

My background

I left the corporate world and became a Nutritional Therapist when some simple diet and lifestyle changes helped me to get pregnant with my first child

Before my nutrition career I spent 13 years doing Change Management and Tax Consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney and London. Before this I earned Bachelor degrees in Commerce and Law and a Masters degree in Law (majoring in Tax!).

I am a registered Nutritional Therapist with the UK Complementary Healthcare Council (CNHC). I am a member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT). I am also a BANT registered Nutritionist. I have recently completed my Bachelor of Science (Hons) Nutritional Therapy. My major research project focused on urinary issues due to prostate issues.

I live in Sydney's East. I am a mother to 4 young children. I love sport, getting outside and keeping life as simple as possible. My youngest son Michael has Down Syndrome.

What Is Nutritional Therapy?

Everyone is different.

This is why I offer personalised nutrition advice.

I focus on the root cause of why you are feeling the way you are - this is known the functional or integrative medicine approach. I’m not interested in temporary fixes or short-term solutions. I want to find the underlying cause of your symptoms and help you to make diet and lifestyle changes that will support you in the long-term.

Most of us know we should eat more vegetables and less cakes and biscuits. But do you really know how to optimise and personalise your diets? I will help you to understand the foods that are right for you so you can put your best foot forward in life.

Nutrition and food choices are not a one-size fits all. What works for one person may be terrible for another. This is because we are all individuals with a unique biochemistry and unique needs. This may explain why your friend can eat bread, pasta all day every day and feel fine, while you feel dreadful.

Nutritional Therapy focuses on getting to the root cause of someone’s symptoms so that you can address the underlying problem once and for all. This approach is grounded in functional medicine (read more about it here). The idea of functional medicine was a lightbulb moment for me as I realised that symptoms would keep coming back (perhaps in different ways) until the root cause was addressed. In other words, get rid of the broken glass, don’t just stick on another BandAid or plaster.

I work collaboratively with your GP and other health practitioners if this is something you would like. Your GP should always be first port of call for any health issue or concern.
