Bolognese Boost

Chicken liver is one of the richest natural sources of iron with 4 times more iron than a rump steak and 25 times more iron than a chicken breast. One bag of Bolognese Boost has the equivalent iron of 8 rump steaks!

What is it? Superbly nutrient dense powdered 100% certified organic Australian chicken liver from happy healthy chickens. The only thing that has been done to the chicken liver is the removal of water through a process called freeze drying.

Why? Easy to add 1 or 2 scoops to everyday cooking to make sure you and your family are getting the nutrition you need. Add it to Bolognese sauce, curries, stews or even as a pizza topping!

Who is it for? If your iron levels are low, you are frequently getting colds, you don’t like eating meat or don’t eat it very often, then this is ideal for you.

Frequently asked questions.

1. What exactly is Bolognese Boost? It is a superbly nutrient-dense powder made from 100% Australian certified organic chicken liver. The livers are freeze-dried to remove approximately 75% of their water weight while locking in their natural nutritional profile.

2. Do I need to cook the powder before eating? Yes, Bolognese Boost is a raw product and must be cooked. It should be stirred into your dish at the end of the cooking process and heated for at least one to two minutes further to ensure it is properly prepared. The aim of cooking is to cook the liver to an internal temperature of 75 degrees Celsius.

We are currently exploring options to pre-cook the chicken liver so that the powder does not need to be cooked. Watch this space.

3. How much should I use in my recipes? The recommended amount is 1 to 4 tablespoons for every 500g of meat in your recipe, but you can use as much or as little as you want. Sometimes we use over 100g (almost 2 large bags) for 500g of mince meat when making meatballs. For general maintenance, it is suggested to use it once or twice each week, consuming roughly one 50g packet per month.

4. How much protein is in one serving? Each 1-tablespoon (8g) serving provides 6g of high-quality protein. This is equivalent to the amount of protein found in a scoop of many common protein powders.

5. How much iron does it provide? One single tablespoon provides 3.2mg of iron, which is 28 per cent of your recommended daily intake (RDI). This is the same amount of iron you would find in a large steak. Please don't add it to your protein smoothie - remember it must be cooked first!

6. Why is the iron in chicken liver better than plant-based iron? Chicken liver contains heme iron, which is a type of iron that the human body absorbs much more easily than the non-heme iron found in plants or traditional supplements. This mean it doesn't have to be consumed alongside vitamin C to help its absorption.

7. Is it suitable for fussy eaters or children? Yes, it is often described as a "saviour" for picky eaters. Because the powder has a neutral smell and mild flavour, it can be easily hidden in family favourites like Bolognese sauce, burgers, and stews without changing the taste or texture.

8. Doesn't the liver store toxins? This is a common myth. While the liver's role is to neutralise toxins, it does not store them. Toxins that the body cannot eliminate are typically stored in fatty tissues and the nervous system, while the liver acts as a storage organ for the very vitamins and minerals (A, D, E, K, B12, and iron) the body needs to eliminate those toxins. The liver's role in neutralising toxins is one of the reasons why we have chosen livers from happy, healthy and organic chickens.

9. How many chicken livers are in one packet? A large 50g packet of Bolognese Boost is equivalent to buying 200g of fresh chicken liver, or approximately six whole chicken livers.

10. What are the other key vitamins found in this product? Bolognese Boost is exceptionally high in:

  • Vitamin B12: 2.4µg (244% RDI) per serve.

  • Vitamin A (Retinol): 700µg (167% RDI) per serve.

  • Folate: 207µg (52% RDI) per serve.

11. Why is this beneficial for people with thyroid disorders? Individuals with low thyroid function often struggle to convert beta-carotene from vegetables into usable Vitamin A. This product provides preformed Vitamin A (retinol), which the body can use immediately without needing to perform that conversion.

12. Can I use this product if I am pregnant or trying to get pregnant? It is advised to use caution and consult a healthcare professional. Generally, the sources recommend avoiding this product if you are pregnant or trying to conceive due to the very high levels of Vitamin A.

13. How should I store Bolognese Boost? Store the powder in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Unopened, it has a shelf life of up to 2 years.

14. How long does it last once opened? Once the packet is opened, it should be consumed within 30 days. Always ensure the powder has a neutral smell; if it smells sour, you should throw it out.

15. Why should I choose food over supplements? Experts suggest that real food is superior to supplements because it provides a natural mix of nutrients that work together synergistically. Man-made supplements often contain isolated vitamins that cannot fully replicate how nutrients interact in whole foods.
